I’m writing My ePostcards to capture not just the ‘big picture’ but also the small details and anecdotes that make my trips memorable. Hopefully they give you an insight into the places I visit, which are often ‘off the tourist trail’ and maybe also give insights into why I choose to travel to the places I do.
Travel is in my blood, not my family history.
As a child it was inexpensive holidays in England, Scotland and Wales. My parents worked hard to be able to afford a couple of weeks away and I’m very grateful for those holidays, they showed me that trips don’t have to be expensive to be enjoyable. My first overseas trip was to Canada in my early twenties, a crash course in independent travel. I loved it!
My trips began when independent travel was still unusual, travel got easier in the 21st Century and until Covid, my travels took me to places that were pretty much only known to the locals. It’s different post Covid. The world is changing in other ways too – climate change and especially mass tourism are changing places at ever increasing speed.
My ePostcards capture the world at a moment in time, sometimes the places are still the preserve of independent travellers, sometimes they are rapidly becoming package holiday destinations.
I hope you enjoy reading My ePostcards.
